Despite Celebration, Wrestling Not Leaving Olympics

by Ted Gross

Despite the terrific effort by squash to clear the first IOC 2020 bid hurdle, there is no way wrestling will get thrown out of the Olympic Games.

It is highly doubtful the IOC ever intended to drop wrestling from the Olympics.

More likely, they wanted to send a message to the sport, which is: Do a better job policing yourself for drugs, and incorporate more women, both as competitors and administrators.

Wrestling is not going anywhere. It will be voted into the open spot in Buenos Aires in September.

The hope for squash is that the IOC has the good sense to open a second slot.

If they don't do that, we've been played.

Brett wrote a piece that agrees with your sentiment above and he has been getting serious flak from wrestlers around the world at http://thematforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=60147&p=279379&hilit=brett+squash#p279379
